DVDRIP
DVDRIP represents a sample of works produced during the time of the rise of illegal file sharing, or ‘pirating’ movies online.
This yet to be perfected digitization process often led to corrupt digital information, often created by accident through the process of illegally copying and sharing data. The corrupt information embedded in these films, when played, would briefly flash across the screen as abstract geometric patterns, large brightly colored pixels and image traces and artifacts. Reminiscent of Glitch Art, the photographic representation of this unintended data consists of using screengrabs in order to capture what is often a split second of corrupt footage in a film. The resulting images are in essence film-stills; yet retain little or no visual reference to the original footage.
